CITY OF MAYFIELD HEIGHTS
SPECIAL COUNCIL MEETING MINUTES
January 5, 2012
The special meeting of Council was called to order at 7:00 P.M. by Mayor Gregory Costabile.
ROLL CALL: PRESENT: Mr. Anthony DiCicco, Mrs. Donna Finney,
Mr. Joe Mercurio, Mr. Nino Monaco, Mr. Paul Sciria,
Mrs. Diane Snider, Mrs. Gayle Teresi.
ABSENT: None.
Also present were Assistant to the Law Director L. Bryan Carr, Director of Finance/
The Pledge of Allegiance was said.
The purpose of the meeting was to elect a Council President, a Council President Pro Tem, a Council representative to the Planning Commission, and a Council representative to the Mayfield Union Cemetery Board of Trustees. There are also other appointments, which will be made later. Council committee appointments will also need to be made through the Council President.
Mayor Costabile asked for nominations for Council President. Mr. Mercurio nominated Mr. DiCicco. Mr. Monaco nominated Mrs. Finney. Mayor Costabile asked for any other nominations, but there were none. Mr. Mercurio, seconded by Mrs. Teresi, moved to close the nominations. Roll Call on motion as stated: AYES: Finney, Mercurio, Snider, Sciria, Monaco, DiCicco, Teresi. NAYS: None. Motion carried.
Mr. Mercurio, seconded by Mrs. Teresi, moved to elect Mr. DiCicco. Roll Call on motion as stated: AYES: Snider, DiCicco, Monaco, Mercurio, Teresi. NAYS: Finney, Sciria. Vote 5-2. Motion carried.
The Mayor noted that since this was a majority vote, there was no need to take a vote on the other nomination and Mr. Carr concurred.
Anthony DiCicco was elected Council President for a two-year term, commencing January 1, 2012 and ending December 31, 2013.
Mayor Costabile asked for nominations for Council President Pro Tem. Mrs. Finney nominated Mr. Mercurio. Mrs. Teresi nominated Mrs. Snider. Mr. Monaco nominated Mrs. Finney. Mayor Costabile asked for any other nominations, but there were none. Mr. DiCicco, seconded by Mr. Mercurio, moved to close the nominations. Roll Call on motion as stated: AYES: Monaco, Sciria, DiCicco, Finney, Mercurio, Snider, Teresi. NAYS: None. Motion carried.
Mrs. Finney, seconded by Mrs. Snider, moved to elect Mr. Mercurio. Roll Call on motion as stated: AYES: Finney. NAYS: Mercurio, Monaco, Teresi, Snider, DiCicco, Sciria. Vote 1-6. Motion failed.
Mrs. Teresi, seconded by Mr. Mercurio, moved to elect Mrs. Snider. Roll Call on motion as stated: AYES: Snider, Teresi, Mercurio, Sciria, DiCicco, Monaco. NAYS: Finney. Vote 6-1. Motion carried.

NAYS: None. Motion carried.
Diane Snider was elected representative to the Planning Commission for a two-year term, commencing January 1, 2012 and ending December 31, 2013.

Mayor Costabile asked for any other nominations, but there were none. Mrs. Snider, seconded by Mr. DiCicco, moved to close the nominations and cast a unanimous ballot. Roll Call on motion as stated: AYES: Finney, Mercurio, Snider, Sciria, Monaco, DiCicco, Teresi. NAYS: None. Motion carried.
Nino Monaco was elected representative to the Mayfield Union Cemetery Board of Trustees for a two-year term, commencing January 1, 2012 and ending December 31, 2013.

Mayor Costabile congratulated everyone who was elected. There will also be appointments made to other committees by his office and the Council President who will also be making the Council Committee appointments.
Mr. DiCicco thanked everyone. He feels they can work together and make up a good Council. He will try to follow the good example that Mr. Ballistrea set as leader of the Council.
Mrs. Snider also thanked everyone and knows that they can work together.
The Mayor stated that he is looking forward to working with Council and the new leadership. It is time to work together for the betterment of the community. There are a lot of exciting things happening in the next two years, so the City can move forward in a positive manner.
