DiCillo’s Tavern exists in the exact location it first opened in 1933 and Lee Jewelers has been at its current location for 53 years after moving from a previous Mayfield Road location. Subsequent generations continue to serve our residents in the same traditional manner in a modern Mayfield Heights.

With Mayfield Road going through a major facelift over the next several months, one landmark remains constant – Di Cillo’s Tavern, which has been in existence since much of the road was a rural field. In a city that thrives on proud tradition, one only has to glance at the longest-running business in the area, to find a connection with a proud past and a bright future. Mayor Costabile agrees stating, “The continuity present in all facets of the city and demonstrated by this family’s business, is what keeps our community strong and our traditions preserved”.

Current owner, Pete DiCillo, a highly-respected businessman and Mayfield resident for over 60 years, has ties to 1927, when his greatgrandfather opened a butcher shop/grocery store in the current building. His great-uncle obtained one of the first post-Prohibition licenses in 1933, and the tavern became part of history. Pete’s father, Zipp, ran the bar until 1954, when he bought the business, shortly before Pete returned from Air Force service during Korean War.

The bar area offers a full line of spirits for patrons who are always sure to see a friendly, familiar face. Pete’s daughter Annette, has managed the business for nearly 25 years, and son Mike fills in during peak hours. The adjacent restaurant has a quaint, family-friendly atmosphere and offers a wide variety of menu items – featuring delicious soups, daily lunch specials, and a popular Friday fish fry, which draws a virtual generational parade of satisfied customers – from great-grandparents to small children.

DiCillo’s Tavern – one name, one family, one special place in Mayfield history.
